Auto Logins Slow and Doesn't Prompt Correctly

I have been using the Auto Login feature for more than year, and it has always worked as expected. If I have not yet logged in to Nortons, I would get the prompt to do so. If I had, it would display either the login or the choice of multiples if applicable.

In the past few weeks, something changed. Now when I come to a site, I do not get the prompt to login in. I have to click on the Cards & Logins button on the Norton's toolbar. Then I have to wait for a long time for a login prompt to appear. Once I've logged in, the system works normally but still may take a while to show me the multiple login box on applicable sites.

I thought it might be related to Firefox updates, but I get the same behavior in IE.

I've checked all the settings and they all appear to be correct (and I don't think I've changed anything from how it was set before).

Any suggestions? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks

Tom

Hi tlehman

Have  you selected the "Don't ask me again " option for the drop down pop of login to Identity safe?

kishore

I am having the same problem and I did not change any settings to provoke this behavior either. It is to the point that I am ready to uninstall it as well.

Hello Tom,

Could you please share the Product Name (NIS/N360) and Its current version? If possible on which OS you use the product?

If suppose you have the NIS 17.5 or 17.6 then make sure to have the "Securely collect and store my Logins and offer to fill in those Logins when i revisit those pages" and "Display my Logins each time i visit a page with multiple logins" checkbox ENABLED (look for the options at Settings -> Web Settings -> Identity Safe Options -> Logins)

I am running NIS 2010, the latest version (automatic updates) - XP Professional

This was working fine with 2009 and then 2010 up until a month or so ago.

The settings are correct, and I didn't change anything (that I know of)

Even when I click on the Cards&Logins button on the Norton toolbar, it takes quite a while for the login prompt to appear. From that point on, it works normally. That is, once I'm logged in, the prompts for websites come up at normal speed.

Note sure if I was clear in my first message about that.

I am running essentially the same setup on my laptop as my desktop. The laptop works normally, but something changed on the desktop.

This could be something outside of Nortons, but I don't know what to check.

Thanks

Tom

Did you ever get your slow auto logins resolved? It's been six weeks for me and I still have not received any assistance at all. I would love for it to work normal again.

Hi Tom/LMCFashions,

Please try the following steps :

1. Reboot your machine.

2. Back up your Identity Safe. (Web Settings-> Backup Identity Safe Data)

3. Logout of ID safe and reset it by giving wrong password twice in the ID Safe login window.

4. Create a new ID Safe profile.

5. Restore your backed up IDSafe Profile(Web settings-> Restore Identity Safe Data)

If the login prompt is still not available, then you should have selected 'Don't Ask me again' in the Identity Safe login prompt that appeared. Once you select that option, it is not possible to revert it back.

Thanks,

Umai

Hi Tom and LMCFashions,

Did the suggestions by thambidurai or Umai help? As Umai mentioned, there currently is no option to restore the "Log in" toolbar popup if the "Don't ask me again" option is checked, but we have added such a setting for the next NIS release. See this thread: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/no-identity-safe-connexion-pop-up/m-p/232593

Tom, from the issue you're describing, it sounds like there is something more than just the missing popup. You mentioned that it takes a long time for the Login dialog to appear after clicking the Cards & Logins button. That dialog can be launched from either the toolbar button or from the Identity Safe links in the main NIS window. Can you please try this:

1) Open the NIS window from the tray icon

2) Click "Logins" under the "Web" section of the window

Does the same delay occur from that procedure?

Thanks,

John

Sorry, these responses were overlooked. To the last point, I did try logging in from the NIS screen after first logging out through the dropdown in Firefox. I see the same delay getting the box there, but it is not quite as long. If I log out and then back in, the prompt comes up quickly, if that is helpful to know. This is an interesting test since I have had the problem equally in both Firefox and IE.

Any further thoughts on this? Thanks. Tom

I was having the same problem.  By trial and error I've managed to discover a few things that might help.  These helped me.  These work in both IE8 and FireFox.  I'm running Windows 7 and Norton 360 4.0.  First, back-up your UserIDs and Passwords.  Next, make sure the Norton Toolbar is selected.  If it isn't, after you select it, restart your browser.  Two addons come with the toolbar.  Make sure they're enabled.  If not, enable them and restart your browser.  Once your browser has restarted with the toolbar and addons, restore your UserIDs and Passwords.  Prior to discovering these steps, I would experience a 5 to 10 second delay.  Afterwards, everything worked normally.  I have 2 user accounts on my PC.  I noticed that after switching from one user to another, the first access to identity safe is slow but afterwards it operates normally.

This may not make any sense, but it worked for me.  Disable the Norton Toolbar.  Restart IE8.  If you have the IE8 Menu toolbar enabled/selected, disable it.  Restart IE8.  If its disabled, enable it and restart IE8.  After the restart disable the IE8 Menu toolbar.  Now enable the Norton toolbar and restart IE8.  See if the problem is gone.  If the problem has vanished, enable the Menu toolbar and I suspect the problem will not reappear.  I discovered this while testing to determine if ADDONs were conflicting with each other.

Has anyone figured this out?  I tried everything above and am still having the delay in the logins being filled out. (similar to the original post)  I am running Internet Security version 17.7.0.12.   I love the autofill functionality but the delay is starting to make me love it less.  Thanks!

Scratch that last post.  I disabled and enabled the toolbar (as instructed above) and it seems to have corrected the problem.  ....  for now.

FYI, I completely removed my NIS program using the Nortons removal tool, and then reinstalled. I exported the login file so i could import into the new installation, but it proved unnecessary. The new installation solved the login problem completely. I have no idea what the problem was, but now it is gone.

FYI, I just discovered that if I say I don't want to see notifications about Cards, it also turns off the automatic login popups. I guess I have to reinstall again. Nortons, if you are listening, you really need to fix this so that you can turn these back on without having to reinstall the whole program.

Add me to the list of folks that have had this problem.  Things were working fine, and all of a sudden it was taking 20 or more seconds on a page to get my login information filled in.  Had to completely remove Norton (I'm running 360 but it must the the same issue folks are having with NIS) with buDump and Norton_Removal_Tool (removing it via the uninstall program that is put on the PC when you install Norton did not work) and then reinstall.  Seems to be working OK now, and I hope it stays that way.

I'm back and am still having the problem.  I don't have the patience to reinstall my Norton Internet Security again and again and again and again.  I love the functionality that Norton Internet Security provides to manage logins so I have learned to live with the delay whenever it autofills a page.  If anyone has an answer to this problem or if the process of reinstalling fixes it "permanently", "for good", and not just for "a week or two", please let me know.  Thanks!
