Auto protect error with Code: 10 on every restart

What can I do to resolve this? I get it every restart.  I have ran LiveUpdate and it is reported that I am completely up-to-date.  I have re-installed and still get the error.

Version 11.0.3 (2) on Mac OSX 10.6.1 (10B504) Snow Leopard.

I am getting this after uninstalling and purging all symantec files using RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command, and installing a fresh copy that I purchased today (10/12/09).  Like the other user, I am getting the popup saying the file was corrupted and I should reinstall or run ive update.  I have reinstalled twice.  I have ran LiveUpdate and get all green checkmarks.  The popups are getting pretty annoying.

What kind of computer do you have? Is it an Intel based Macintosh, or a PowerPC Macintosh? If you are unsure, you can take a screenshot of your "About this Mac" and post here.

Thanks,

Ryan

I have a  Feb 2009 MacBook Pro, Intel Core Two Duo.  I am a software engineer so I might be able to provide you with more detailed, technical responses if you wish.

In addition to the Code 10 box, I am also getting this box too:

Are you running your Mac in 64-bit kernel mode? Our products don't support 64-bit kernel mode.

Ryan

Indeed I am.  Snow Leopard was announced at Macworld 08!  Its been almost two years since the 64-bit architecture was announced.  I am not willing to slow down the rest of my computer for Norton.  Please tell me where to go for a full refund.

Apple does not recommend running their Macs in 64-bit kernel mode. In fact no Mac boots into 64-bit kernel mode by default. There are several disadvantages to running in 64-bit kernel mode, namely a larger wired kernel memory allocation that is detrimental to users with smaller RAM allocations, which is why Apple didn't boot into 64-bit mode by default. At WWDC 2009 Apple recommended developers start writing device drivers for 64 bit kernel mode, but we are not a device driver company. You'll notice no security company has 64-bit drivers, and most kernel extensions are still not 64-bit compatible on the advice of Apple. That will start to change in 2010, but it's not going to to be overnight.

You have to contact technical support about refunds.

Also, I think you are mistaken if you think 64-bit mode means faster, especially for kernel mode. In fact, 64-bit kernel mode is only faster if you have a ridiculous amount of RAM like an Xserve. In a consumer machine, it will likely be slower in Snow Leopard. For technical details contact me, but at WWDC 2009 Apple was very clear–64 bit kernel mode is for enterprise machines, not consumers.

Thanks you, i have received my refund.  It is anecdotal, but my 4gb ram MBD is definitely snappier with 64 on.  All Apple code is running with 64 bit, and every app I use now supports 64 bit architecture.  XCode compile take significantly less time which is big because I am also a Mac developer (well, iPhone, but similar).  Anyway, good luck with getting 64 bit up and running, I will gladly come back when you have a 64 bit build.
