Auto-protect turns off by itself after new product update

Norton installed the newest product update and it installed fine. I rebooted again a couple hours after it finished and auto-protect turns off by itself, warning me that I did it and need to turn it back on. This happens after each reboot. It stays on for a couple minutes then turns off. Hitting fix now does nothing, and using the help diagnostic option says nothing is wrong. What do I do at this point? I'm running vanilla Windows 8.
