Medium-Risk and High-Risk Files are Automatically Removed and there is no Options to change that.

Also, Norton keeps all files inside its quarentine. Files can be restored as needed. There is no option to clear the quarientine.

Yes; it is only Compressed Files you can choose to not Remove Automatically, but will be Quarantined.

However, under settings there is an option to not remove infected files automatically.

For me "No options" on how a file is treated once it is discovered is a surprising choice for NIS2009 which is supposed to be tweakable for those who want to compared with the plug in and go of N360 for those who don't.

I've run into this recently since I have on a hard drive UBCD for Windows which includes Hacktool and other tools for specialized use. Having it on my PC is my choice -- although next time I update it I better burn it to a CD or move to a thumbdrive immediately -- and I don't want it automatically deleted.

Then having deleted it, although NIS2009 will allow me to restore the file it does not provide automatically for it to be restored to where it came from so unless I copy the location from Quarantine (and I don't think you can wipe / copy / paste from its information) the ability to restore is not very helpful -- if fact it could be dangerous since it lets you restore it to any location you happen to chose from My Computer.

FWIW

The option applies to only compressed files. Not all files.

I disagree. Norton comes up with quite a few false positives for me. I'm not stupid. I am new to Norton 2009 though.

So there is no way to enable this option I want?

PS I tried to restore the files but Norton keeps deleting them.

Fustrated.... :(

What do you mean?  If you mean an Option to stop Norton Deleting High-Risk or Medium-Risk Files, then there isn't.

If you know they are Safe, you could add them to Exclusions: Click on "Computer - Settings" > Exclustions / Low Risk.

A reasonable way to settle this would be to send a few of those files to Norton for testing.  If they are false positives, they will take steps to fix the sigs.  If not, you might decide you don’t really need them any more.

No, an option to ask me what I'd like to do with them.

At this rate I'm already pissed I acually bought this thing.

Iknow that I have no knowledge regarding these matters, but why would you want to keep something that’s a major risk?

Because its NOT a damb high risk. Norton is just going crazy on them. They are all patch files. CLEAN. I’ve had them for a while now. Been scanned by Kaspersky 7 and 8 then NOD 6 and now I bought Norton 2009. Norton is the ONLY one saying they are high risk.

What FP’s are you getting form Norton. I have over 250 programs installed on my pc and not one FP. I have had Norton for over a month now.

I need some help here. I am using Norton IS 2009. It’s looking pretty good and fast but I need to know is there an option to have Norton ASK me what I want to do with High Risk files. It keeps auto deleting everything on my PC even though I know those files are clean. It’s probaly picking up and trace trogen code and thinking its a virus (False Positive). I dont want to ignore certain files just have Norton ask me before it go beserk.

It’s saying they are trojans.

<<   It keeps auto deleting everything on my PC even though I know those files are clean.>>

If you know certain files are clean does it not mean that you know their filenames and locations on your PC? If so why not add them to the exclusions under Computer / Settings / Scan Exclusions or Signature Exclusions?

This from HELP / High Risk:

You can use Scan Exclusions settings to exclude viruses and other high-risk security threats from scanning.

To exclude high-risk security threats from scanning:

  1. In the Norton Internet Security main window, in the Computer pane, click Settings.
  2. Under Exclusion/Low Risks, in the Scan Exclusions row, click Configure.
  3. In the Scan Exclusions window, click Add.
In the Add Item dialog box, click the folder icon.
  4. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the item that you want to exclude from the scan.
    Click OK.
  5. In the Add Item dialog box, click OK.

Not the same as having it ask you each time but it resolves the repeated questioning?

What are the files? Do they belong to games? Software?  What are the FP’s for? Are you running any cracks or keygens?

It's not what I really need ed but thank you. Now its does not solve the problem of it deleting it in a scan. I've done a scan of the folders and it will tell me to reboot so it can delete all the files I just excluded. anyway to solve this?

Acually what im asking is:

Is there anyway to put Norton IS 2009  into Manual mode?
