The scan starts automatically if an external HD is turned on, even though I don't want it to. I have 4 partitions on the drive, so 4 scan windows open. They cannot be cancelled; even if the HD is unmounted, they continue "thinking' they are scanning.
There is a Crash Report that I can share if someone can decipher it.
