As of this morning, Norton Identity Safe no longer offers autofill log-ins.
After some checking, here is what I can say:
1. Yes, NIS is still on and activated. If I fill in the log in on any particular site, then the next visit that site will fill in automatically.
2. Yes, NIS still has the same original database. If I click on Manage Log-Ins, then all the log-in data is still there, still visible, still on auto-fill.
3. No, the original data is not available by clicking on the Show Available Log-ins for This Page. In fact, there is no such option on the sites that fail to fill...until I make at least one entry; and then only that entry will be offered; the old alternatives will not be.
In other words, the database exists and is available to the Manage Log-In component; but is not accessible to (or perhaps not usable by) the autofill component. But newly used information is accessible to both components.
Could you please check the the login options for any login that is not filling for you? To do this go to the Manage Logins screen, select a login that is not filling and look at the options at the bottom of the "details area". If you could tell me what is selected, that may help.
Also, can you recall anything that may have triggered this problem? Such as resetting or restoring the ID Safe profile or a crash or some other activity that preceeded the problem with these logins.
Finally, have you tried restoring the ID Safe profile to see if that fixes the problem?

Thank You,

Hi, Govind.
I have already checked the log-in options for all those sites; and every one of them was set to autofill. They just weren't doing it and they did not appear on the "show available log-ins for this page" display.
I did nothing special before this happened, with one possible exception. Some time in the 24 hours prior to this problem beginning, I experienced an IE7 slowdown and was forced to kill the process. I've done this before with no consequences, but this could have been the one time there was.
I have turned off the Identity Safe component and seem to have a faster loading browser and have not been experiencing any slowdowns. Yet.
Here is how you can restore your Identity Safe profile. Before doing this, I would recommend that you take a backup of your Identity Safe data.
Backing Up Identity Safe information.
1. In the Norton Internet Security main window, in the
Identity pane, click Settings.
2. Under Identity Safe, in the
Backup Identity Safe Data row, click Configure.
3. On the "Back up Identity Safe
Data" dialog box, type, or browse to the location to which you want your
data saved.
4. Type the name that you want to assign to the file with
a .NPM suffix.
5. If you want to back up your data with a password for
more security, type and verify the password.
6. Click OK.
Note: I recommend that you perform this backup only to be on the safer side. Restore option does not pick up information that you've manually backed up. Instead it picks up information that is automatically backed up by your Identity Safe feature.
Restoring the Identity Safe information.
1. Attempt to log in to Identity Safe with the wrong password twice. The following window appears.
2. To proceed with restoring the Identity Safe information, you need to enter your correct Identity Safe password in the following window.
3. Choose to Restore the Identity Safe information from the following window.
The backed up version of the Identity Safe is automatically restored.
If the following is the screen you are talking about, you might see that I would have some problem doing a backup. I won't do anything more until I read your response.
The reason for the blank screen above was that Identity Safe had been disabled. IS cannot be configured in the disabled state (which, btw, I consider a design flaw).
Once I enabled IS, I did the following
a. Made a backup of my current IS database.
b. Restored the previous IS-generated backup.
c. Tested IS and it FAILED.
That is, I went to a site where I had four log-ins. None of these autofilled although the log-in managed had auto-fill and auto-submit both activated. When I dropped down the Card & Log-in menu, I was NOT presented with the "available log-ins for this page" option. In other words, IS did not recognize that I had any available log-ins for that page. BUT, when I went to the log-in manager, those pages were listed and ready to go.
Hi mijcar Please let us know whether Auto-fill has failed for all the saved logins or for particular sites. If it is later, could you please provide us the login page link where Identity Safe has failed to fill the logins? This would help us in finding out the cause of the issue.
Also verify the following settings in Identity Safe: In Identity Safe Options:
Could the triggers for some site have changed so that IS is not recognizing that the site in question is indeed loaded in the browser? What actually triggers the IS routine to load a certain login information? Same web address / cookies / etc.?
Adolf (and Dbris), let me explain this as clearly as I can:
First, though, yes, all my settings are the same as you posted, Adolf.
Now.
At a certain date, the following behavior started:
When I would visit a site (ANY site) that previously would be auto-filled:
1. the site log-in would no longer fill.
2. the site address was still listed in my IS "manage log-ins" data and the log-ins were still there and they were correct and the correct boxes were checked for autofill, etc.
3. it is hard for me to believe that the "trigger" changed since occurred for every single site (and I have many) listed in log-in DB, including this one.
However (and this is very important), I know for a fact that IS is still activated, because:
1. if I RE-ENTER the log-in data on the site, the next time I visit the site, the IS autofill will work again
2. even though it still doesn't work for the sites where I haven't re-entered the data;
3. and re-entering does not modify the entries in my log-in DB in anyway; other than to cause them to start working again.
I hope it's useful. My feeling is that this may have happened to other users; but because they didn't run all the checks I did, they didn't really figure out what was going on.
Something triggered the behavior. What is interesting is that Identity Safe has and displays all the right sign-ins, but don't seem to know what to do with them or even that it does have them.
There are other individuals that have experienced the same or similar issues to yours. I mostly visit the 360 forum but was fortunate enough to find your post. I was experiencing the loss of some log-ins data (always the same ones) from the "Cards & Log-ins" button in my browsers but all (I believe, it's hard to keep track as there were many) the data would show up under the Norton Button and "Manage Log-ins" in the browsers. I believe this is what you are experiencing?
I had not seen if you had reset your IDSafe profile as (Tom_V?) had suggested and then restored your backed up profile?
I'd like to take a guess here and assume you had used 360's v3 installation file to remove version 2 and opted to save your profile data.
I mention the thread because a Symantec employee was asking for more information. Plus the more people that report a problem and provide varying degrees of issue related information may aid in 1) the problem being more thoroughly being investigated and 2) a solution being found.
Yes I reset my ID profile (different terminology in NIS) and restore backup.
No, I never had 360 are any of computers.
At the moment, I am waiting to see if the current profile at least retains entries made on this round; or if the problem starts anew. I will try to keep people informed as to what happens.
