Autofix error 3048,3

It seems that once or twice a month this error will popup.

I usually reinstall the big signature file fresh and for awhile it goes away.

It look like NS cannot handle too many sig, like an hard drive that needs a weekly defrag...

If you are not comfortable doing a reinstall of your Norton Security products, there is no need to pay anyone to do this for you. You can contact Norton Support via online chat and they can connect securely to your computer and do the reinstall for you.     www.norton.com/chat

RE:  NRT

In July of this year, when the "Autofix" problems occurred and re-occurred, the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool was blithely mentioned as a solution to the problem.  For many people it wasn't, though, and the problem kept recurring.  They did a lot of work for nothing.  On July 21 we were advised that there was a Hotfix issued, which seemed to fix the problem.

My point is  - again - that for the average user (NOT the power user, as most of this community seem to be), uninstalling and reinstalling ANY program is not so straightforward as you think.  Especially a security/antivirus/firewall like the Norton products.  I personally would NEVER do this unless I paid a reputable professional to do it for me.  There are just too many things that can go wrong if you really don't understand computers.

Just sayin'.

After using Norton Security for years, now this starts to happen? I'm very disappointed. After running malware scans with different products, clearing temp internet cache, windows cache, cookies, running NPE as suggested, it then said the problem was Java. So I uninstalled all Java and JavaScript. I should not have to do an uninstall and reinstall, especially if people here are saying this error keeps coming back. Running Win 7 Pro, on three computers. Only one suddenly started this a few days ago. Ridiculous.

Sometimes, the Intelligent Updater page is the best option in situations like these.

It's an annoying problem, which seems to surface from time to time.

I read that old thread.

It seems correct, until 2 months ago the first suggestion was to run Live Update and download the complete signature file.

Now the link is missing..and the only suggestion is NPE that to me means another area of problems (missing rootkit...)...

Next time i'll Update and reboot to see if I get another week without the error...

I can use NRT once a month, once a week I'll find another antivirus program.

Still waiting for an explanation of the "real" meaning of the error.....

The Error 3048,3 occurs when Live Update sees that it is supposed to download and install a particular patch - but the patchfile itself is not available for download at the particular Live Update subserver you are connected to.

This above quote is from an old Norton thread, so I'm not sure if it still applies.

However, it DOES seem to be linked to Live Update errors.

I can use NRT once a month, once a week I'll find another antivirus program.

Still waiting for an explanation of the "real" meaning of the error.....

Hi. If you use the NRT as suggested, it will give a complete uninstall.

It's then recommended that you restart/reboot your computer, and then go to your Norton Account to download a fresh pre-activated copy from there.   https://manage.norton.com/

After the new install, run Live Update until no more are found, and then reboot. Let us know how you go.

NRT is the "solution" usually suggested by Norton Support...

Done a lot of times recently and in the era of the 30 minutes shutdown...

New activation sometimes end up as trial and its necessary to clean it all..

But the 3048 error is persistent, never twice in a day but always hitting back every week...only on the desktop, the notebook is not used much this period.

Hello

It looks like the remove and reinstall tool isn't really fixing the issue. I would try using the Norton Removal Tool to  completely remove the product, restart and then log into your Norton Account and reinstall a fresh copy of your program.. Run Live Update until no more updates and then restart one last time.

Please be warned that the Norton Removal Tool will remove all Norton products.

www.norton.com/nrt    Norton Removal Tool. It will give a deeper cleaning. Before using the Tool, please remove it using the Control Panel method and restart, then the NRT and reinstall. Please use a Windows Admin Account to do this. Then go over your settings.

Thanks.

maurizio04:  Still a 3048 error every week, more or less...

Error: "3048,3" appears on my Norton product
If the problem persists, run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v63747322

Still a 3048 error every week, more or less...

Now the web page linked to the error has just one suggestion, run NPE...

The system is clean after NPE and Malwarebytes, so it would be nice to know the real meaning of that error.

From what I can guess after 2 months it must be:

"Something unexpected happened, it could be a virus but we don't know so try a rootkit scan....."

Very annoying....:-(
