Let me follow this up by saying an external USB harddrive would be sufficient as well, and perhaps even a DVD if it came to it.  Since the disk image I want to back up is not running Windows (but does use the FAT32 filesystem) I would need some sort of boot CD in order to make the actual disk image; I’m fairly sure ghost already does this, right?

Ghost Solution Suite may be an appropriate product for you.  You can launch the old style Ghost from a command line which I'm sure you can put into a batch file.  I would go over to the Enterprise forums or contact Enterprise pre-sales to see if the product will fulfill your needs.

Ghost Solution Suite on the STN enterprise forums can be hard to find.  Here is a direct link to the Ghost Solution Suite board.

Thank you both for the replies. It appears that the "automatic" feature is a bit more difficult than what I have hoped.  I can do without the automatic restore feature if the following two can be met:

1)  I can make some sort of boot media (DVD, USB Flash stick, USB Hard Drive) that will boot into Ghost and allow me to image an entire drive

2) I can store the drive image on the *same* media that I used to boot from.  This would produce a nice self-contained device to boot and restore the drive from.

The automatic feature is really more of a 'want' than a 'need', but being able to store the drive image on the same media I used to boot ghost is really the must-have feature I'm looking for.   So is this possible?

Again not a part of the design for the consumer Ghost product.  I would still recommend checking with the GSS forum.  You might find that GSS fits your needs better.

OK, I was hoping that would be.  Thanks for the pointers, ill go look at GSS.
