Automatic liveupdate won't run on Windows 10.

I have Norton Security 22.0.6.142 running on an HP Windows 10 PC, not an upgrade from anything, just a brand new PC. Windows 10 is Home 64 bit version 1511 build 10586.318.

Problem is Liveupdate won't run automatically whatever I try. No error messages that I can find, it just doesn't run.

If I run it manually, liveupdate works fine.

If I leave it, the protection updates date just shows the last manual update, and eventually I get the red warnings that my definitions are out of date, and have to run a liveupdate manually to make it "Current".

History shows only my manual updates, no other attempts to liveupdate, failed or otherwise. It just doesn't seem to try.

Settings are for automatic updates ON, apply updates only on restart ON or OFF makes no difference. Windows Quick start is currently OFF, but has also been ON, makes no difference. Norton security No proxy settings, or Proxy settings automatic makes no difference.

Scans do happen automatically, regularly according to my settings.

I have reported this twice via live chat, and each time the "helper" took control of my PC, checked the settings, ran a couple of manual liveupdates and said "It is working". NO IT ISN'T! One told me that liveupdate only gets updates when it needs them... I would have thought a warning that the definitions are out of date means it needs them...

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Norton using the Norton removal and reinstallation tool, and everything is the same: still no automatic live updates..

Since Norton support don't seem to understand the problem, I don't really know where to turn for help, so I came here.

I have run Norton for years on XP PCs and still have two with this version on them, both of which run the auto liveupdates as I would expect, and the protection update date changes to "Current" within a few minutes of starting them.

Any ideas? Can someone tell me where they've hidden the magic switch this time?

If you need more info, please ask.

Thanks,

Neil
