I recieved a pop up on my desktop that said I could update from 2011 NIS to 2012 NIS free of charge for the rest of my subscription is that correct? I just am basically requesting confirmation that this was a legitimate update from Norton.
Thank you,
Kyle.
Hi Kyle,
You certainly can upgrade to NIS12 while your current subscription is active.
First, backup your Identity Safe if you use it, then open NIS and click Support > Check for New Version and follow the prompts to upgrade.
I hope this helps. Please let us know how you get on.
Thanks, Dave.
Thank you for your reply. I have updated to the 2012 and it seems to be working fine. What struck me as odd and I want to confirm is that I was prompted to update without seeking such action. A small box appeared in the rigthand bottom side of my desk top saying I could update to 2012. I also wondered why it was just now prompting me. Let me know.
Thanks
Kyle
I don't use NIS, so I am not sure of the settings in NIS11, but I believe that the pop-up is just to remind users a new version is available. The new version provides improved protection and performance enhancements. You can read about what's new here. - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Protection-Blog/What-s-New-in-Norton-Internet-Security-2012/ba-p/433160. Symantec recommends upgrading to the latest versions.
With n360v6 there is an option to download new versions automatically. There is also an option to not receive this notifications if you wish. Dave.
Thanks I like the design just wanted to confirm it wasn't some false instilation of sorts. Your reply is resolution to my question. Thank you both for your help.
Kyle.
