Every time I need to upgrade my OS, I need to make room on my aging Macbook pro's disk.
Clean SEEMS like an excellent tool to help with this, except that it is actually useless, a waste of time, and I accidentally clicked clean once a while ago and then had to fish all of my drafts back out of the trash. The program currently autoselects junk and similar files, but does not autoselect obvious duplicates.
To useful to me this program should be able to (1) autoselect obvious duplicates/similars according to rules that I am able to set which will regulate the level of similarity required (2) autoselect junk and abandoned files. My search for solutions found a lot of others who also have these same needs.
So here is my question: Is there a way to do this? The only solution that turned up in my search was to go through by hand and select or unselect as needed. However, the results of the Clean are not presented in a nice spreadsheet style grid that would be easy to scroll through and click. There is no option to unselect, or select, ALL. Instead, each set of files is presented individually. So for me, the most efficient solution would be to turn OFF autoselect, so that similars are not selected, and go through all of the duplicates and junk and select them by hand. It would take hours.
MUCH more useful would be a very basic set of rules that allow me to choose the types of files to autoselect (in my case duplicates and junk, but not similars) AND/OR to be able to set a rule or set or rules e.g. " if the name is the same, and the date is the same, and the size is the same, then autoselect all but one file". Or "if the name is the same and the size is the same and the date is different, autoselect all but the newest one". These seem like simple and obvious algorithms. However, the current auotselect rules are more like search tools for finding specific names or dates, or patterns/ranges of names and dates. They do allow you to specify keep/clean for the smallest file or most recently modified files in a group. None of these options allow me to do what I need to do.
Thanks for any solutions, either with tweaking this program in a way I haven't been able to figure out, or recommending some other actually useful cleaning tool.
