Backdoor:Win32/Blarul

Hello experts,

Apparently I picked up a virus known as "Backdoor:Win32/Blarul" - even with Norton 360 installed and running.
The symptoms were only 10% of the CPU and 25% of RAM in use but the system was VERY slow to boot, to logon, and launch apps.
Launching Service Control Manager, Event Viewer, running Outlook, or attempting to run Windows Updates would all hang (time out).

I had run numerous scans with Norton 360 which did not find it (I had not yet tried Norton Eraser),
but Microsoft Safety Scanner did (unfortunately MS say's very little about it).

I am not entirely sure where I got it, but I had downloaded a few versions of some backup and imaging software
(I was careful to download only from manufactures links, and not some third party web site).

  • Acronis True Image 2015 Free           (downloaded)
  • EaseUS Todo Backup Free    (Downloaded)
  • EaseUS Partition Manager     (Downloaded)
  • Apricorn EZ Gig IV             (Purchase CD and downloaded)

Any information about where I might have picked this up, and if there is anything else to look for is appreciated.
To what degree do I consider this computer to have been compromised and the contents stolen?

In the interim I'm running Norton Eraser...

Thanks.
