Since Norton 360v1 and V2 only create one file folder name for it's backup called... "N360_BACKUP" you have to be creative.

I use Norton360v1 and V2 on two different computers all networked together, the hard drive is USB connected to a 3rd. computer on this same network.

The hard drive where the backup is stored has to be set up for file sharing turned on.

I created two unique name folders on the storage hard drive, then on each computer with the files I wanted to save I mapped the storage drive to the exact folders on the 3rd. computer where the storage drive is.

N360 can only find mapped drives on a network.. so, if you only map the computer to one folder location it finds only the folder you mapped to on that remote drive!

The frustrating part of the V2 set up is the archival format the files are now stored in. If/when the day comes to restore these files I will probably have a separate headache in place... I'll either have to re-map a new computer.. or  I might have to move the storage drive to the computer in question... then move the files to a separate folders called "N360_BACKUP" since this back up program was designed to be simple and only look for one source folder and expect the file needed are only within that folder.

Sure appreciate the V1 full file format if/when I needed to retrieve data!

Norton had a "KISS" application in V1 with the back up data file format... and only complicated the issue based on promoting security and not on data accessibility!!

and the security is a misnomer since ANY N360 v2 application can open the data files!!

Norton... how secure is any back up when you name the back up folder N360_BACKUP, the one name anyone needs to know when figuring out what kind of data this is!! This "security" is no more than a lock on a glass door.

Hope some of this helps!

I believe I follow what you are doing in theory at least. You are mapping folders. Not quite sure how you physically have done this though and it would be useful for others if you could beef out the details please. I am presuming that you create two folders on the physical external drive and then map a drive letter to point to each folder.

Yes, you have the concept correct !

will post with more details here ASAP.

It's one of these things I know how to do.. but have to review each step to detail this for others.

Thanks

Exactly, it would be nice to have those detail steps. In fact I wish contributors looking for solutions to their problems would more generally appreciate that although they know their problem, they are not always clearly explained when they post - whether because English is not their native tongue or because their use of English is actually quite poor. Indeed I know that when reporting potential bugs to Symantec they ask me to set out detailed steps that can be followed and reproduced. Things always go easier when that is done. Anyway, no rush - just when you can.

Thanks

Information is based on Xp Pro, sorry this is the only OS I have this working on.
I'll be detailed in actions... I hope most know how to navigate with the file
explorer/my computer etc.. This also takes for granted your computers firewalls are opened
to let the computers in use talk to each other on the network.

The drive where the data is going to be stored needs to be shared.
START-MY COMPUTER-  right click on drive to be shared,  left click on properties, left click on tab for Sharing.
There are two areas in this dialog box, go to the section "Network Sharing and Security"
Check the box SHARE THIS FOLDER ON THE NETWORK, create a share name you can remember!
Check the box ALLOW NETWORK USERS TO CHANGE MY FILES.
Click OK, windows will update this service,
you should see a hand now under your drive in the My Computer list of hard drive on the computer the
storage hard drive is attached to.

Go to the drive where your data is going to be stored and create two unique folder names, this is where your
data will be stored in a folder called "N360_BACKUP".

On the remote computer(s) you need to Map this storage drive.

In the file explorer select TOOLS, from the drop down menu select MAP NETWORK DRIVE,
when this dialog box opens the first line is  DRIVE, select a drive letter
(typically most pick Z:)
Click on the BROWSE button, navigate to the storage hard drive and unique folder name you
created on the first computer where you want your files kept.
If you have done this correct the second listing FOLDER will show your network path to the folder selected.

Now open up N360 on the computer that has the data you want to backup,

hover your mouse over the backup options, and select MANAGE BACKUP.

When the backup options dialog box opens choose
Section 2, Backup destination, Select the option to change the setting.
Norton will scan for local drives and networked drives, select the drive letter you created when you
mapped the selected computer and make sure the radio button is highlighted, click O.K. to save this setting.
FWIW, The drive that's mapped gets a network location icon.

(Newbie note: (When you Map a network drive this becomes a designated drive letter/folder location assignment for that computer only))

Doing this for the first time you might want to do a small selection of files to make sure all is working fine.

Keep in mind, you need to make sure if you use the Automatic backup feature to use different times for the
two computers to do their backups!

** Reminder if your storing files with version 1, you get full file format data in that backup process.
If you use V2 the program uses the new archival format.

** For all backups - The computer with the attached storage drive is hooked-up to needs to be running!

Sorry If I missed something here, or took something for granted - technical writing is not my thing!

I have 2 computers, a laptop & a PC, both have Norton 360 Primer Edition on it.  I have an external hard drive “F” that the back ups go to, is there a way to differentiate between the two?

I believe not because one cannot specify a sub directory of an external hard drive which is one solution that would have worked.
