Well my dad wants to do a back up of the PC, and keeps getting the same error message after backing up around 3 disks. The problem is very similar to this one. http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=Norton_360&message.id=4642 But unfortunately, they didn't post the solution. It's Norton 360 we're using. ;)
My PC is Windows XP and is a Packard Bell computer. (There's no specific name mentioned in the system properties other than Packard Bell). The PC must be around 3 or 4 years old now. The backup uses disk drive F which is the DVD-R drive. E is just a DVD drive, but gets disks jammed, and is just dodgy, so we don't really use that one.
Anyway, anytime we try to do a back up, it never works. We had the last version of Norton 360 last year, and we were able to do a proper back up at the end of 2007. But if I remember correctly, we were unable to do a back up again using the same version before we got the new version, and we had the same problems as we are having now.
The backup gets around half way before it comes up with an error saying "Insert Disk" and with the message "The disk has failed. Please insert a new blank, unused CD or DVD into drive F:, then click OK." And has options of either OK or Cancel. Well we've tried pressing OK after putting a new blank disk into Drive F:, but it doesn't back up any more files and comes up with that error again.
The back up has wasted at least 7 disks by backing up the same files when we try restarting the back up, but it gets that error again and won't work.
It's not really me doing the back up. It's my dad, as I said before. So I'm not entirely sure what's happening. But he's not a computer whiz like me, so I'm the one who's gotta find out how to fix it. But from the disks the back up has used, it appears that sometimes the backup only backs up 1 disk before getting the error, and sometimes 2, and occassionally 3. :\
I've tried searching for the problem on the internet. But no one seems to have it except a couple of people on these forums, but there's no clear answers on how to fix it.
Honestly, I may be a computer whiz, but I'm no good when it comes to finding the computer specs cause they are never displayed properly on my PC. Well at least I don't think they are as I can never find them easily. But if more information is needed on my specs, then please tell me which ones, and how I find them, and I'll try and post them here.
