The reminder to backup appears and I attempt to backup to a separate drive.
Backup starts and I receive red X Backup - Backup and Backup - Default Set error? No indication of any problem?

Norton sucks
How about creating and posting a screenshot of the screen you are seeing? That would help tremendously. Here is how to post screenshots into your posts. Please note this is NOT attaching a file in the "add new file area" in the add reply comments section. We'd be more than happy to help with a bit more to go on. Thanks in advance.

Edited: If the external drive is a USB portable device or other USB device, AND, it is NOT a networked storage device you shouldn't have to map the drive. It will show in the File Explorer under a specific drive letter such as D:\ or F:\ for example.

I'm sorry, asking rediculous questions isn't "sharing your knowledge". I'm already frustrated by what a useless greed machine Norton is.
Windows 10. It suddenly started with this latest attempt to backup my system. There is no way to find the problem, merely an error message.
Norton is becoming more and more useless.
We are just volunteers who volunteer out time, trying to help from our knowledge of the Norton products.
We cannot see your system and you did not say anything in your first post about where the drive was, or that you have been using it for some time now. So we have to ask questions.
How long have you been seeing this issue? Were there any other changes to your system since around the time this issue started?
What is your Windows version?
I'm trying to backup to the same external drive I've been backing up to for years. Are you really suggesting that I make sure the drive is connected and mapped? It's bad enough that I have to waste my time trying to solve a stupid problem with Norton without dealing with this nonsense?
What separate drive are you trying to backup to? If an external drive, you need to ensure that the drive is connected and that it has been mapped to a drive letter in Windows Explorer. And then that drive letter used in your backup set settings.
Look for entries in your Norton history for a possible answer. A screenshot of anything you may find will help us help you going forward.

Nothing wrong with SD card, as soon as I reset the backup destination it works perfectly. Anyway the complaint is that Backup just says “Error” with no info as to what problem is
Hello Freegle. Use a different SD card in the place of the one you regularly use to see if Norton detects it as a backup destination. The card you are using may have gone kaput for some reason.
