Backup Failed

Backup appears to work fine on smaller drives or drive partitions.  When I attempt to back up a larger drive or drive partition the backup fails often near the end (93% to 98%) with the message "There is a backup problem. Make sure the destination drive or device is connected then try again".

I have tried deleting the backup and retrying but have not been able to complete the backups on my larger drives.  I am using a WD 4T USB-3 destination drive plugged into the desk top directly.  The destination drive was formatted before I began backing up.  The source drives where I have trouble are greater than 300 Gig in size and have music and video files on them which are relatively large.  Retrying the backup results in a few more files being backed up but eventually fails with the same message..

Any ideas?

Hi,

I am sorry about that. You can try uninstalling Norton using Norton removal Tool by going to www.norton.com/nrt  . Once it is uninstalled you can install it by going to www.mynortonaccount.com  . You need to login using your email address and password. From there you can download and install Norton. Let me know if you need any further help.

Norton 360 failed to recognize my backup drive.  So, I bought a new backup drive.  Not a hardware problem.  I uninstalled Norton 360.  Now, I cannot re-install the program.  Norton 360 on-line fix tells me that I have the latest version, but I un-installed the program so it does not exist.  Now, I am unprotected for viruses.  I bought a new back-up program, Acronis True Image, and have total back-ups.  However, I need a re-install of my Norton 360.  My attempts with Norton Version 4.0 fail.  My on-line version of Norton 360 Version 6.0 does not re-install.  I do not know how to find my copy of Norton 360 Version 6.0 on-line and not re-subscribe.  The computer tells me that I have already installed the most up-to-date version, but nothing exists on my computer.  Norton 360 Version 6.0 is the worst headache that I have ever had on my computer.  Norton offers no support services with my subscription.  Norton, you suck!

I successfully used the Norton Uninstall for Norton 360, then did the Norton Reinstall for Norton 360.  The installation process required me to Uninstall System Mechanic.  I do not understand why System Mechanic is incompatible with Norton 360.  I would guess that the defragmentation and optimization features are a source of possible conflict.  I hope that the features offered by System Mechanic will be covered by using Norton 360.  I am interested in learning more about the incompatibility of the two programs if anyone has information concerning this issue.  Thank you for the Norton 360 Uninstall/Reinstall solution.  :smileyhappy:

Q: How to solve the problems with Norton backup?

A: Scrap it and use another, better product.

Well. end of story. After four chat sessions with four different Norton people (each taking more than one hour of my time), one finally agreed to 'pass it on the engineers', who would be back to me within 48 hours. After some days without any response, I decided to go to a different backup product, and asked the Norton Chat guy to cancel my subscription to an extra 10GB on Cloud (I bought this so I could do my backup, which is never going to work).. He was extremely resistent to this and I had to resort to demanding over and over again that it be cancelled, to avoid further waste of time. Finally (after the huge waste if time that is characteristic of Norton chat), it was cancelled. Now I have bought a different product which works and which gives me 2 TB of backup for a price similar to Norton;s 40Gb. And it worked the first time!  Although I think the core of Norton (security and virus protection) is good, I think their backup to Cloud is bug-ridden and not good value for money. :Leaving aside the fact that, if you use it, you will spend a lot of time on chat. Be careful Norton, you were a great product with a lot of committed users, but maybe your time has passed.

I have a similar problem. I have N360 Premium and 40Gb Cloud backup. I have repeatedly tried to back up about 30Gb but it always fails before all files are uploaded. The system gives me a 'try again' message but repeating doesn't solve the problem. I have had two long sessions with Norton Chat helpers but neither of them seemed to understand how the software works or to diagnose the problems. Rather, they took me through the same old that I had already done - delete everything already backed up, try again, try a different data set, delete everything i.e. trial and error, the experimentation that we do when we don't have the knowledge to analyse the problem. One went so far as to insist that the problem must have been caused by me opening and saving the entire 16,000 files in the backup set over the previous few hours.  And in both cases, no success, back to square one.  The attached shows screen prints of partial failures on a smaller test set of JPG photos. (Yes when you look at the files outside Norton, you can open them all fine.) So - does anyone else have any insight into what might actually be causing this problem?

Many thanks

Hello what OS are you using?

I cannot believe someone at Norton has not replied to this note.

Same problem here. Any ideas?
