Every time I try to back up to my network drive (mapped to z:) it fails. I’ve set the backup to the public folder on the drive so authentication is not the issue. I’ve updated to the latest version. 21.x something.
One other observation I wanted to mention as well is when looking at the Security History log in Norton, approximately 10 seconds prior to each backup failure event, there is also an Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data) security event. It indicates that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONHOST.EXE is the “Actor” with an “Action” of “Access Process Data” and “Reaction” of “Unauthorized access blocked”. I wasn’t sure if this has anything to do with the failure, but wanted to mention it just in case.
Please help, thanks

Hi,
SWAG
Try turning on silent mode for the duration of the backup.
Keep us posted
Silent Mode had no effect.
For better reference I'm attaching the exported "Recent History" log file in txt format, tried attaching in the original mcf format (and zipped) but the forum will not allow it.
The setup is Win7 Home Premium x64 and Norton 360 21.0.2.1.
The part of the log file that I think is relevant is:
"10/8/2013 2:52:16 PM,Medium,Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data),Blocked,No Action Required,10/8/2013 2:52:16 PM,C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONHOST.EXE,1676,C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\Engine64\21.0.2.1\buVss.exe,2420,Access Process Data,Unauthorized access blocked" comes right before "10/8/2013 2:52:27 PM,Medium,Backup performed to Z:,Failed,None,Backup,Failed,Z:,Network Drive,There is a backup problem. Make sure the destination drive or device is connected and then try again." every time!
TIA
Hi doable.
I am not sure what that log entry means at the moment, and I am still puzzled by the general backup entries in the log but may I try asking some other questions?
How large a backup are you trying to create? The Preview option should answer this.
Has Norton created a N360_BACKUP folder in the root of the target drive? I am slightly puzzled about you appearing to say that the target it drive Z but then saying that you are backing up to the public folder. I understood that N360 always expects to backup to the root directory and to create a N360_BACKUP folder there. I use a network drive for my backup but I am not sure I fully understanding your situation. I apologise if I am being obtuse. In my case my one physical drive appears to my computer as three drives X:, Y: and Z: with Y: being the one I normally backup to and that has a N360_BACKUP folder in its root. However I can choose one of the others and then Norton just creates a N360_BACKUP folder in the root of that drive. I cannot work out how to use Manage Backup sets to store the backup anywhere other than in the root of a disk.
You say that the network drive is mapped to Z:. When I set up mine I found that I had to re-map every time I booted to ensure a reliable backup. Do you do that?
