Backup fails, Fix fails, can't manage details to create new

Using N360, W8.1.   I have a failed backup that hit 99% then stuck in a dead loop.  Saving to a new 2T external Seagate that is functioning perfectly and only 20% full.  I can't create a new Backup, and I can't Manage Details, because it keeps telling me it is currently in an active backup (which it is not, my external HD is not running); it tries to run fix, but I started that last night, and the active fix screen shows continuous activity, yet nothing is happening.  I need to delete this failed backup protocol so I can go back to regular backups.  Or I am going to delete Norton 360 altogether even though I paid for the annual subscription.  Ideas?
