Symantec notified me in August that an update was available to enhance my current package. I accepted and the Norton icons for backup, virus correction, etc. disappeared from the bottom of my screen. My last update was 8/13/08. Where do I go to enable Backup? Also I used to have a folder in Outlook for Spam that Norton would automatically direct detected spam into and then I would delete. That also went away when I downloaded the enhancement. I have Windows XP for Home. Thanks for anyone’s help. I’ m a newbie with dangerous limited knowledge.
So, first of all which norton prodct do you have?
Norton AntiVirus/Internet Security or Norton 360 (it has only the backup function.
This is only in NIS2009 (or maybe NAV too :), I don't have it): To enable the toolbar in Outlook, go to the options panel, there Internet Settings, and under Antispam find Client Integration. Click on configure, and set Outlook to be enables (by default it is turned off).
The recent “key” that was sent me in August was to Norton Internet Security. In January, 2008 I renewed Norton 360 Upgrade. No wonder I’m in a mess.
I think, you had Norton 360 1.0 earlier and when the upgrade option came, you chose for Norton Internet Security 2009(which is currently installed in your computer). Norton 360 1.0/2.0 is having the Backup & Restore features while Norton Internet Security don’t have those. When you buy an upgrade, you are buying the newest version of the Norton product at a discounted price. You install this new product to replace your current product. The Upgrade products have new features as well as a new subscription. Here you have replaced your Norton 360 with Norton Internet Security 2009. That’s why you are unable to find the options for Backup in your current Norton program.
If you have backed up any data to online storage using Norton 360 and if your Norton 360 subscription expired by August, then it may be difficult to restore those data. This is because data removal from Online Storage happens after 30 days from the product expiration(if the product is not renewed). If the subscription of Norton 360 is still active, then you can remove the Norton Internet Security and install the latest Norton 360 2.0. You will be able to activate the Norton 360.2.0 using the same product key of your previous Norton 360. (NOT with the key of Norton Internet Security).
Better to consult with Customer Services, as it will be easier for them to get information about your product subscription and the order you placed on August(Upgrade purchase).
Thank you so much. You are a wealth of information and I appreciate your taking the time to try to help me.
This link provides comparison of the features between Norton 360 2.0 and Norton Internet Security 2009. I am not sure which version of Norton 360 you had earlier, but Norton 360 1.0(earlier version) had less features when compared to the current version- Norton 360 2.0.
