Backup issues - not backing up all my files

I actually own Norton Security Suite...but the backup directories are called Norton_360...so I assume it applies here.

Version 4.3

I cannot figure out why Norton does not backup my entire My Documents.

My settings have all files types selected and My Documents selected. (not the entire C drive)

Norton states in Preview that 17,762 files, total 3.4Gb of data will be backed up.

I can see in the file list that it is no where near my entire My Documents.

So I ask Windows how many files are in My Documents. If I only select the Documents folder, I get 25,000 files, 35Gb.  If I select my entire User folder (Which is more accurate), I get 70,000files and 70Gb.  That doesnt count the 9,000 files worth 10Gb in the Public user folder.  Of which I do see some files backup via the Preview folder.

The majority of the Preview files listed are from the appdata folder in my user folder. It completely skips 95% of My Documents.

Is it using some date and only backing up files that are newer than this date?  I would expect a lot of the AppData files to be newer and it is backing up some of my newer pictures.  Could this be possible?  Is there a method to reset this 'date' so that all files are backed up originally??

I have had to change backup locations and start this backup over many times in the past.  In fact, just this weekend I created a new backup set to use a new NAS I have installed.

If I include a folder, does it automatically include that folder and all the sub folders?  I shouldnt have to do this if it is My Documents folder, but thought maybe I could force it.

Thoughts?

thx

I tried adding/including some folders.  I added the Documents folder, Pictures, Music (all of which are in My Documents...) and the preview now shows 40Gb.

Why would I have to add these folders??  Should I just tell Norton to backup those file types on the entire C drive??

I updated to v5 this morning.  Same results.

however, now that I added the appropriate folders, it appears to be backing up what I need.  Also, this new version will show what folders are being backed up, which is much easier to monitor than every file.

I still dont know (nor did the online chat help rep who did a remote session on my computer and just recommended upgrading to v5) why this doesnt work correctly.  This occurs on all 3 of my home computers.

I even tried checking all hard drives and it didnt change.  I literally have to go into My Docs and select the folders I want backed up manually.  At least I only do it once.

hey SpartanGA!!

can you tell me if you ran into any error message? what version of OS do you use?

No error messages.  I use Vista.  3 computers in my home use this backup.  2 Vista and 1 XP.  All have the same issue.

do you still face this problem??
