Issue abstract: Backup keeps adding wrong folders

Detailed description: Backup ran out of space. When I checked to see why, I saw that it had added the following folders:
c:\SWSETUP
c:\Recovery
c:\SYSTEM.SAV

I have removed these folders. However, the next time I run backup, Norton adds them again. How can I get backup to stop adding these folders when backup is running?

Product & version number: Norton 360 Premium

OS details: Windows 10 Home

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

Did you … Add to exclusions ?

Did you … Exclude from backup ?

Note:
you’ll need to show hidden files, folders, and drives & show protected operating system files

Thanks for getting back to me.

That seems like a strange work-around. Is there a way of preventing Norton from adding these folders in the first place?

Did you add OS (C:) ?

Confirm you have Back up common files types only = on (green)

Excluded files → Manage → + Add

I turned this off because I’m trying to back up everything in the My Documents folder (not just common file types).

Okay → Back up common files types only = off (red)

Norton Cloud Backup is for backing up personal files and documents.

  • v24 Get started using Norton Cloud Backup [here ]
  • Norton Cloud Backup → did you add OS (C:) ?

Hasleo Backup Suite is for backing up the operating system. As I mentioned above, I’m trying to back up everything in the My Documents folder only.

  • Norton Cloud Backup → did you add OS (C:) ?

add exclusions

The root drive was pre-selected, but it wasn’t empty. The pre-selected folders were the user folders (Pictures, Images, Documents, Videos, Downloads), I removed them all except Documents.

then you’re backing up C:\Users\user\Documents

Norton Cloud Backup cannot create system image backup.
Norton Cloud Backup is not a system image backup tool.

then I imagine…you’ve added OS (C:)

then I imagine…you’re backing up C:\Users\user\Documents
preset backup path → C:\Users\user\

Hello @Shane
Please post progress

Sorry for the delay. The community was down in Canada.

There was an excluded folder that no longer exists. When backup encounters this, it causes the described behavior. This is a new bug, possibly introduced when backup was recently redesigned. There are several other new bugs, for example, the computer no longer stays awake during backup.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
