Backup keeps opening and closing my DVD/CD Tray

I have been having this problem for many months.  I have my backup set to manual and it wants to run automatically, hence, opens my blueray drive bay over and over looking for a disk. I have tried chat support many times and only once even got a tech to try and help who took over my computer and could not solve the problem.  I actually have 9 more computers I needed to renew licenses on and am not going to do so because this really blows. Not to mention the software, to me, is not nearly as nice to use and seems to not have nearly as much to set custom as the user even though there are more features, most of which I have trouble with and I have been using Norton for many many years.

Same problem on 2 machines. Have tried everything I have seen suggested on this thread and others tucked away on the web. Chat guy from Norton/Symantec was useless (and hard to understand, I want to add). He set my backup to drive c:, ran a job, set it to DVD drive, ran a job, rebooted, nothing happended, assured me it was fixed, and then it opened about 20 minutes after disconnecting. Really disappointing that nobody can seem to drum up a fix for this. Thanks for your help Norton.

I apologize that I hadn't seen these postings before, but I'd like to work with you to better undertsand this issue.  I'd like to figure out cause here and get a resolution if possible.

I found a way out of this mess.  Enable the backup function in 360 and uncheck everything except for something small like IE favorite list and have norton backup to the local drive … this solved the problem for me.

What I did was open Nortons 360 in the system tray, clicked settings, made sure the back up on the right hand side was unchecked, clicked the back up settings in the main window, clicked to manually back up, AND SAVE OPTIONS.

The problem stopped.  Simple.
