This was on Windows 8.1 professional.
I made sure that my backup destination did in fact exist and that I had access to it.
I made sure that the destination showed up in the manage backup sets where you can select your destination.
I made sure that my destination had enough space for what I was backing up. But, it was still failing.
I checked my ability to read/write from the folder in the folder properties: There was a black box within the read only check box, meaning that I only had partial access to write to the folder. I completely cleared that box by clicking it twice and tried again.
Backup success.
