Backup Set Details Lost

I have been using Norton 360 for quite some time, and have an automated backup to an external hard disk.

I recently renewed my licence code and unfortunately, did not notice that my external hard disk was not plugged in when I activated the new code.

Now when I go to the Backup section of Norton 360, the only backup set I see is the DefaultSet (although the restore options can see the files backed up on hte external hard disk).

Is there any way of restoring the settings for this Backup Set for use in future backups, or do I really just have to start all over again?

Hi, RWAP,

Welcome to our community!

Thus should be fairly easy to fix. Ensure that the files arestore.exe and arestore.loc are present in the root directory of your backup drive. Run arestore.exe; it may take a very long time if it has to rebuild a large catalog, but it will complete. That should restore access to your backup set.

Unfortunately, not - I can see the backup set and restore files from it without any problems either using Arestore.exe or Norton 360.

But when I click on Manage Backup Sets, I still only see the DefaultSet which is set up to store files in the secure online storage.

The sdolution suggested above did work once I had reset the PC !!

Wonderful! I have been out of the action for a few days, so am only just seeing this--but it's definitely the kind of resolution we like to see :smileyhappy:

P.S. Never underestimate the power of a cold reboot!
