Bad image

I am frequently getting a popup error window that says at the top of the box  "McciBrowser.ede -- Bad Image".

Then below it says "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSVIDEO.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"

The "McciBrowser.ede" file name is sometimes changed to another file name. Is this a virus? I have done complete scans with Internet Security 2011 and it finds nothing.

Sounds like some sort of new modified version of a TDL2 and TDL3+ (Tidserv, TDSS) with extras.

Quads

There was a typo in my first message. It should read "McciBrowser.exe -- Bad Image"

Hi Lesgreen,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

Quads is one of the best around at malware removal and he is indicating that he suspects you have a rootkit which is quite tricky to remove.

I would suggest that you visit one of the Malware removal forums below for assistance. Bleeping Computer is the best but they also tend to be quite busy at times. However any of the ones below will take good care of you.

Please be sure to open a ticket with one or more of these. When the first one responds you should continue working with that one malware removal site specifically and close the ticket with any others that you opened, stating that you are already receiving assistance. It is also very important that you do not attempt things on your own but rather follow their advice until they have issued a clean bill of health.

The sites are:

www.bleepingcomputer.com

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/

http://forums.whatthetech.com/

(thanks to Delphinium for the list of site)

Please let us know when you have received a clean bill of health and we can pick up from there to make sure that your Norton software is back to normal.

Best wishes.

Allen
