Currently I have to say if things don't start becoming better, I won't be purchasing again.
My Complaint...is that the antivirus heuristic's "detection" is complete and utter garbage. It flags so many things that I know aren't problems...I'm talking about games off Steam, or even Dwarf Fortress. What's the point? It's like, these days if I see a heuristics type message, I completely ignore it. I could do a better job myself at guessing if the file is an issue. And some files that may potentially contain issues...well, I have no clue, because Norton will flag them even if they aren't. There's literally no point to even using Norton Anti virus because it's basically made me have to decide whether the item is a virus or not.
What's even more annoying is the fact that it's no longer a simple click of a button to restore the file!!! I tried to launch DF today, and of course it's instantly deleted...I go in, mark restore...think...why bother owning norton...but double click on file to play like i've done in the pass to other issues, and to my surprise it's deleted AGAIN!! After some time I found there are multiple entries in my history now...one that lets me restore file, and another that sets file as safe. You also can't do them out of order you have to restore file then mark it as safe, the other way around just causes Norton to delete file again. So frustrating!!! So on top of not providing a legitimate detection scheme, you're also now forcing me to jump through greater hoops to restore a file I know is completely safe!! Seriously, who thought this was a bright idea?
I understand the point of trying to predict a file may have a virus, but when you claim everything is a threat, you become the boy in that story about crying wolf too many times...so you never know if it's really a wolf or not! And most the times you just ignore the threat because you're failing miserably at actually predicting harm. Like seriously, multiple steam games have been deleted on me by norton...you might have heard of steam...they have over 125 million users.
At this point Norton is becoming more of a pain to use. Being the tech guy in my family you can expect me to advise them to remove Norton as well!! So completely and utterly frustrating. I've already turned of automatic renewal, I won't turn it back on unless things get better.
Improvements i'd like to see:
1. Better Heuristics detection.
2. An easy way to mark something as trustworthy...like right click on directory and just flag as safe.
3. This more leads back to item 1 - have Norton tell me if something is trying to write to another file, or send data outside my network, or trying to bring something externally into my network.
4. A one button click to set my firewall to prevent anything entering or leaving.
5. Faster startup...since using Norton, my startup now is so extremely slow.
