Hi JohnJames599:

I should also mention that Avast has a reputation for selling personal user data to advertisers, so if you install any Avast product (which now includes AVG antivirus products as well as Piriform utilities like CCleaner and Defraggler) then I'd strongly advise that you ensure that any optional data sharing is disabled in the settings.  I use Avast / Piriform's CCleaner utility on occasion and have gone one step further and created a custom block in my Windows Firewall to prevent any outbound traffic by the main executable (CCleaner.exe for 32-bit; CCCleaner64.exe for 64-bit).  From PC Magazine's Oct 2019 article The Cost of Avast's Free Antivirus: Companies Can Spy on Your Clicks :

"Avast is harvesting users' browser histories on the pretext that the data has been 'de-identified,' thus protecting your privacy. But the data, which is being sold to third parties, can be linked back to people's real identities, exposing every click and search they've made."

Are you the same noah john that kudo'd your original message?  If not, and you are legitimately looking for an alternate to Norton antivirus products, it would help us if you told us what system requirements prevent you from installing Norton.

Hi JohnJames599:

What is your Windows operating system?  If you have a Win XP or Vista OS please note that the latest Avast v19.x products require Win 7 or higher.  See the 20-Jul-2018 Avast support article End of Support for Windows XP/Vista for download links for legacy Avast v18.8 products that still run correctly on Win XP and Vista.  As far as I know these legacy Avast v18.8 products (including Avast Antivirus Free v18.8) still receive regular virus definition updates but will not receive any of the new features added to Avast v19.0 and higher products.

Hello John. Make sure you use version 19.4 or higher on your computer. All versions before 19.4 have vulnerabilities that can make your system vulnerable, PLEASE read this article at your leisure.
