An added note to what Bombastus said. I would not recommend turning off the Automatic program control. This gives the user more control over connections through the Firewall as Bombastus said but unless you really know a lot about Firewalls this will actually provide a lower level of protection than the default. This setting is really intended as a troubleshooting step if you are having problems where a program or process is being blocked and you don't want it to be blocked.
For the vast majority of users they don't need to adjust any of the firewall settings.
NIS is very good at automatically determining what should and should not be allowed through the firewall, both inbound and outbound.

set your 'heurisitc protection' to 'aggressive'. You can also set 'SONAR Advanced Mode' to 'aggressive' but you will have a higher risk of fp's.
