Purchased a new Windows 8 laptop and things were going fine, easily connected to wifi and set up networks fine. While purchasing the laptop got a discount on Norton 360, always used other anti-virus but thought id give it a try. Installed it on my new laptop and now internet access is unavailable. I have checked IE, firefox and chrome all are unavailable. Run network diagnosis and Windows says it is connected fine but since installed Norton 360 no access. I have gone into the norton firewall settings and switched IE, firefox etc to Allow instead of auto, still no improvement. Windows defender switched off. Wasted hours of my life trying to resolve this but nothing works. Help!!!

I am experiencing the same problem. I had done a Windows 7 to Windows 8 Upgrade and everything was working fine. I now did a clean install of Windows 8 and the internet and any program accessing it is blocked. I checked the Norton Firewall and it shows the programs with Allow Access (iexplorer.exe, from 32 and 64 bit version, and others).
I have to turn the Norton 360 smart firewall off every time I need to access the internet. I have programs that connect regularly to the internet and the firewall blocks it (Norton 360, Windows Update, Itunes, any other program that checks for updates). Even Norton Live Update and Windows Updates is blocked.
Any ideas?

The problem has been solved.
I Installed the Norton App for Windows 8, it took me to a Norton 360 Upgrade (not a live update), it downloaded and upgraded the N360 I had, and restarted the pc.
I have turned the smart firewall on and now works fine.
