I have been running Norton 360 on my Windows XP Pro Dell Desktop. I renewed my subscription yesterday and it reinstalled. After reinstallation, on restart I got a blue screen. Attempted restart, booted okay, but as soon as I clicked on anything, got a blue screen. Tried rebooting with same results. Booted into safe, and could work, but as soon as I clicked on Norton, again with blue screen. I the booted back into safe, removed Norton, and the computer operated normally.
Initiated an online chat support, and the tech used Norton removal tool, as well as going into my registry and removed all traces of Norton, and removed all anti virus and spyware programs, then did a new install. This took about 2 hours. Restarted, and the computer was very sluggish and again went to blue screen. Had to reboot in safe and again remove Norton, after which the computer worked normally. When the chat session finally reconnected, I was timed out.
So I am wondering if there is anything else I can try. Strange how the computer was running normally with Norton 360 before the reinstall. I prefer to use the Norton 360 as that is running on all my computers, but would have to get a refund if I can't figure this out. Thanks.
I am have a similar issue on a PC with Windows vista 32 home premium. Norton 360 premium was causing the PC to crash. Ran 360 in safe mode and no virus detected. Tried fresh reinstall (several times)but results in BSOD. Uninstalled and PC is stable. Sent an email to Norton but no reply so far.
Have spent several hours trying to resolve but no suuccess. 360 is operating fine on my other (Win7 and XP) PC's.

As for the OP, it will help if you can provide more information about the Blue Screen errors.
What program or module is being reported as causing the crash?
Is there a C:\windows\memory.dmp file generated ? Can you please generate a complete dump ? I will provide methods to upload the dump.
Thanks,
Snehansh
Also, please take a look if there is a C:\Windows\Minidump folder and a .dmp file inside the folder. If there is, then, you can send it to me.
Thanks.
yes, there is a large windows.dmp file, as well as a minidump folder with 14 dmp files from the same day- shows you how many times I tried reinstall, etc. I sheepishly admit though, that only a few of them will contain a complete dump as I became frustrated and short of time and was restarting before the full dump occurred. Tell me which files you need and how to upload them, as they are not in a format I can attach
Hello Docsab,
The N360 forum administrator will provide location shortly.
Please upload the following files -
1) C:\windows\memory.dmp
2) All .dmp files in C:\Windows\Minidump
Thanks,
Snehansh

Hello Docsab,
We are trying to narrow down the issue and would like to check the following:
1. Is there is a cd/dvd in the drive and whether removing it fixes the problem?
2: Is there a way to temporarily disable FAMv4 - this is a file access management software installed on your machine.
No disc in the drive. I searched FAMv4 and found it associated with a program called NTI Backup 5 which is a computer backup program. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled Norton 360 and everything is now running fine!!
You may mark this problem as solved. Thank you for your expert help Tim!

I am using Norton 360 version 20.1.1.2
I was using the regular Norton Anti Virus version before, from Comcast.
I uninstalled the prior Version before installing Norton 360.
Every time I turn off the computer, I get the blue screen of death.
I unistalled Norton 360, and the problem stopped. No blue screen without Norton 360.
I reinstalled Norton 360, and the problem is back. I get the blue screen every time I turn off the computer.
My computer that has this issue has Windows Vista SP2. I have also a laptop with Windows 7 where this issues does not happen.
Norton 360 should be fixed to work with Windows Vista SP2.
I saw other posts about the problem, you guys requested a dump of the crash, and asked the user to uninstall a program in order to solve the problem. You should not be asking users to uninstall programs, you should fix the problem for all the users, regardless of other programs they have.
Hello rsbezer,
The forum admin will contact you to provide dump upload details.
Thanks,
Snehansh

With millions of combinations of hardware and software in use by users, it is impossible to test against everything before a product is released. When a problem arises, the developers ask for as much information as possible. Crash dumps are one of the tools they use to fix the issue.

How did you uninstall the Comcast version? If you did not use the Norton Removal tool, there can be remnants of the old installation that could be conflicting with the new installation.
You should download the Norton Removal Tool from www.norton.com/nrt . Be sure to download the version for product purchased from Service Provider.
I would also suggest downloading the version for Norton 360. You may need to use different file names or download locations.
Start by uninstalling 360 using Windows control panel.
Run the Removal tool for 360.
Reboot
Run the Removal tool for the ISP version.
Reboot
Log into your Norton Account and click on the Download button beside your current subscription. This will download and install a preactivated copy of your product.
I had uninstalled Norton using Norton removal tool.
I did the unisntall again, using Norton removal tool.
After I unistall, the Blue Screen of Death stopped.
I then reinstalled Norton 360.
Blue Screen of Death is back.
So, how to solve this issue for Windows Vista SP2??????
