Boot Time Protection - Why default to "Off"?

Could anyone explain why, if (to quote from the help page):

  1. Turning the Enable Boot Time Protection "Off" reduces the level of protection of your computer, and
  2. Selecting "Normal" provides you enhanced protection during your computer start time without compromising your computer's boot performance,

the default option is "Off"

Aren't most people therefore going to be at risk by default unnecessarily, or is there something Norton is not telling us!

hmmm, that wouldn't surprise me........even though "selecting 'Normal' provides you enhanced protection during your computer start time without compromising your computer's boot performance"!

A reasonable question, swordbyte!

Personally I have changed the settings to 'Aggressive': “Lets you configure Norton Internet Security Online to perform maximum protection during your computer start time.

It ensures complete protection during the boot time as Auto-Protect starts functioning as soon as you start your computer.”

The boot time with NIS v20.3 is still MUCH BETTER than my previous IS application.
