I suspect that I may have been hacked and as a result I dumped Avast Free and have installed NIS 2012.
Before I uninstalled Avast, I used it to run a boot scan and it cleaned a handful of items. I also ran Malwarebytes and it cleaned one trojan.
After installing NIS 2012 I updated it and ran a full scan and it found about 8 more items, these were all previously quarantined items however.
Next I ran the Norton Power Eraser and it cleaned 2 registry entries.
Before resuming my normal online activity, I want to be absolutely sure my system is clean. My question is whether or not it is safe or recommended to run the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool as an extra precaution on a system that appears to be working fine. The Norton agent whom I talked to on Chat today recommended it but the wording on the NBRT website seems to indicate that it should only be used as an extreme measure if your computer won't boot.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
