I have this 120GB Seagate HDD that I want to upgrade to a new, 320GB Western Digital HDD. Seems like an easy task! I just stick the new HDD into a 2.5" case, connect it to my USB port, invoke Norton Ghost 14 with the Copy Hard Drive option, select "Copy MBR" and click on "Just Do It!" (or something to that effect). Notice I didn't select "Set active partition" because this is the only partition on the drive; I also did NOT select "extend ..." because the drive is already formatted to have just one large partition.
Everything goes well, and the copy finishes after about 80 minutes. I swap the HDDs, power the laptop back on and... nothing happens after Windows shows the flag and the running bars (that will keep on scrolling forever). An attempt to invoke Safe Mode shows that Afdisk is where it stops.
What is going on here? Please just don't tell me I'll need to:
1) Buy a Seagate HDD because Windows needs to "recognize" the Western Digital one or
2) I will have to reinstall Windows or boot from its CD and lose all updates just so it loads the appropriate drivers for the WD HDD.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
