Bought a new Computer

I bought a new computer and I am trying to transfer my license over to the new one. I read that I have to deactivate the license on the old computer but I do not own the computer any more. I did not realize I had to do that first to be able to transfer the license. Is there anything I can do or am I stuck buying another product key?

Hi kwmartin24,

Thanks for raising the concern.

Norton program can be installed on 3 computers.  Right now Norton 2012 is out and you can install the same withouy any additional cost.

Download the Norton 2012 and get the feel of most powerful Security program.

If it is Norton Internet Security, download 2012 version from : www.norton.com/nis12

or

If it is Norton Antivirus, download 2012 version from : www.norton.com/nav12

Once it is completed let me know the status.

Cheers!

HI kwmartin24,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

You didn't mention if you have a 1 computer or 3 computer license. You can access your Norton Account and it should tell you which one you have.

How many computers total do you have? If you have a 3 computer license and have used the product key on less than that you should still be able to activate Norton on your new computer without any problems.

Also, which Norton product do you have and what is the version please? You can find the version from Support > About.

Finally, you can contact Customer Service and explain what happened. They will add the activation back on to your account and make it available to you again for use on another computer. Once you select your product please note that CHAT is the best option.

Best wishes.

Allen

I have installed Norton 2012 on my new machine. I have a 3 computer license and I have used them all. So it won't let me use the product key that I all ready have. The Activation window tells me I need to buy an new license. I have read that you can transfer licenses but I am not able to deactivate the old one.

Thanks

K. martin

kwmartin24,

If the other computer is inactive, please try to activate the Norton program on new computer using the product key that you have.

If you face any issues, let me know.

I have a 3 computer licence. I have used the product key on three machines but i no longer own one of them and cannot deactivate the old computer. I have installed Norton 2012 already  and have  tried to use my product key and it wont let me use it because i have used all 3 available licences.

Thanks,

K. Martin

Thank you for informing the same.

If you cannot activate / transfer subscription , I prefer you to contact Norton Support ( Chat ) . So that the issue will be taken care and you can activate your installed Norton program

The link to get into Norton Chat Support is : www.norton.com/chat

Let me know the status.

I have and the activation screen tells me that I have exceeded the number of allowable installation. On my account it says I have 3 installed licenses.

Thanks,

K. Martin

So as I can see you are getting the error message, Exceeded Number of installations.

So that the better option is to contact the Chat Support that I have posted above. This issue will be taken care by the support team.

Hi kwmartin24,

Sym_KeN and I have both posted the link to talk to Customer Service. CHAT is the best option. They will sort this issue out for you - they are very good at taking care of this exact issue. This is not an uncommon issue on the forum. :smileywink:

Best wishes.
