Browser Error - Unable to sign in to Norton account

I am really starting to get annoyed with Norton Internet Security.

I keep trying to sign in to my account through the NIS window but when it tries to connect it comes up with Browser Error - Unable to connect.

I have removed the previous installation with the Norton removal tool and reinstalled, but the problem persists.  I've tried the online chat and the phone support, but all they want to do is take remote control of my computer which I do not want.

This is really frustrating as it used to work fine, but has suddenly stopped, so I welcome suggestions as to a possible fix.
