Not easily. I deleted EDGE because it was so onerous with repetitive “warning” messages I couldn’t use my computer for some necessary work. I’m using duckduckgo for now but I’d rather get EDGE working but I’m afraid to try it right now/
@RonaldE_Cullinan Are these warnings telling you that you need to “click” on something to fix this issue? If that is the case clear your browser(s), ALL browsers, then delete ALL system temp files and restart. Recheck. Running a full scan with Malwarebytes is also recommended. MBAM will detect things Norton doesn’t focus on.
-What is your OS version and its build? Are you registered with Microsoft for the ESU and getting security updates?
Unless you are located within the EU there isn’t a button to remove Edge. Did you use a command prompt?
-Have you ran a full system scan with Norton to see what it finds?
-What is logged in your Norton history that may tell us what the issues may be?
AI Overview
Yes, you can uninstall Microsoft Edge, but it is deeply integrated into Windows. If you live outside the EU, the “Uninstall” button is typically grayed out. To force it off, use Command Prompt: [1, 2]
Locate your Edge version (usually found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\).
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and paste: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\[YourVersionNumber]\Installer".
Note: Forcing the removal can sometimes break Windows widgets or apps dependent on Edge’s web-rendering engine. If you only want to hide it, use Microsoft Support for full step-by-step guidance on removal and reinstallation. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Thank you. I did run Malwarebytes but I couldn’t get a full readout of what it may or may not have done. It is beginning to look like nothing more than a nuisance to get me to purchase it. I have not had problems with Netscape or DuckDuckgo, so far and that helps me because I need to get some work done. Until I finish this, I won’t be able to even attempt to get EDGE back in. As far as that goes, I just renamed the exe for EDGE and rebooted. I did reload a version that was outside the window of when it happened, and was working ok until it prompted for update and I foolishly allowed it.
