Browser Toolbar - RECOMMENDATION - Norton Internet Security

The Norton Internet Security Browser Toolbar has a very serious flaw that is shared by many other add-on toolbars - you can't use the empty space in the remainder of the row it occupies.

 

Toolbar space is very limited.

Every toolbar added to your browser decreases the area that remains for displaying the content you are actually using the browser to obtain.

 

Please design your toolbar so that the currently wasted space can be utilized by placing other non-norton icons, search bars, controls in that valuable wasted space.

I urge other Web Browser users, (that's ALL of us, right?), to send emails similar to this one, not just to Norton/Symantec, but to all other add-on toolbar makers - let's see if we can't finally get this long standing annoying problem fixed.

Echo and Kudos to DancingRat's suggestion.  I am a pleased user of N360 and considering 2013 beta for Internet Security.

I searched for some time to find the appropriate place to provide constructive feedback on a feature, let's call it "shared toolbar" which is essential for Safe Web Lite and Norton Identity Safe. A follow-on recommendation [since I currently use another Password manager for years who does share the toolbar] is to allow this for Safe Web Lite, since it was originally intended for broader use.  I may consider Norton Identity Safe in the future, but as a N360 user, I currently have this embedded, but cannot casually use the Safe Search because it doesn't cooperate with shared toolbar best practice. This best practice, in my definition, is to share: 


1) IE9 File/Tool, Favorites and Command Bar menu

2) FF12 (release update channel - main slipstream  feeds) and comply View  Toolbar Customize placement

3) Chrome 19 or later, use Extension and option of Igcognito

 

Whichever browser on my Windows 7, OS X (Safari), Android and Windows 8 devices gets this first, I will use Norton and that browser on my browsing device(s).

 

You also need to assure your customer base that URLs monitored comply to Personal Privacy and Norton does not record this by individual. I suspect if there is a violator or hacking individual using Norton products, Norton should have the "right" to somehow trace back to malicious posters to protect the community or track virus sources more expediently.  In fact, folks who do trust internet REPUTABLE Freeware download sites, ala CNET, to use Norton OK'd posts, and shoud expect Norton to work with the "majors" to better protect their consumers. We can all agree, Freeware should not mean an open path to malicious code; we appreciate Norton to continue to partner with CNET, Microsoft and others to protect the Internet. 

 

Standardized Virus database and open standards can still be Norton's future and strategy, while proving it's benefit to satisfied users.


Honestly, I want to see all my searches, whether it be Chrome 19, FF12, IE9 to embed the Norton Safe Web as option without the use of the seperate search toolbar.  This is currently because I can't share the toolbar space only!  I love your products, and will all PCs, Macs I support to 2013. I will  provide this in feedback via the beta program as appropriate, and as time allows, but wanted to emphasize the importance of this feature here.

 

Keep up the great work, in creating the best virus free Internet experience.

Fully agree 100%. That is a LOT of wasted space. We should be able to use every single bit of space in our browsers.

Norton promptly addressed this issue! My SafeWeb search toolbar is happily sharing it's space. Thank-you very much for being so responsive to the Community!

 

Now, it would be helpful to provide an option to "size" the Search space width in a future release to regain more space.

Very unfortunate QA and feature weighting. The Toolbar issue returned with my latest renewal of Norton 360 PREMIER Edition. For me making the Toolbar unusable, no way to use Add-Ons Norton Identity Protection or Vulnerability Protection because of Toolbar forcing itself on a new browser line dedicated only to the Norton Toolbar. This issue was fixed in my prior subscription and now has RETURNED. Please confirm if this is happening to you!  I am no longer a Happy Norton User.

The issue has returned with my most recent renewal purchase of Norton 360 Premier Edition. I thought Norton was listening when they fixed this for the last year, but then failed to regard the feature as a priority going forward. A significant mistake, since most "popular" software worth a purchase price and using a toolbar (Roboform, and many others) have LONG provided a well-behaved toolbar.

I'm happy to say this is working fine in IE11, probably fixed a while back. Seemless, no toolbar needed (in my opinion), it's extension shows safe search after the fact. In FireFox, Norton still needs to provide icons to easily move during customize. Thanks for your attention on this.
