BSOD caused by SYMNET.SYS

Hi - I am seeing regular BSOD, and an analysis of the .dmp files shows that SYMNET.SYS is the culprit, and I understand this is part of the Norton products. Is there a fix for this? It is a fairly new install so I don't really want to uninstall and throw away nearly a year's subscription. Running Windows 7 professional.

Thanks,

Norton 360 was installed to replace Norton Security. I can't remember what was installed before then. I have found the symnets.sys file and it was updated on 31.1.13 (version 13.1.0.7) and the PC has been having regular bsod from 10.2.13, and checking the .dmp files most show symnets.sys as the probable cause. One out of the eight I have checked shows csrss.exe or ntkrnlmp.exe as the problem.

I will try the uninstall/reinstall in the next few days.

By the way, I noticed on some other posts that it was symnets.sys interacting with VPN that caused failures - the PC that is failing uses Microsoft SkyDrive, and I wonder if that is a VPN type connection that is clashing with symnets.sys - anyone experienced similar problems?

Have uninstalled Norton 360 and will run for a few weeks with AVG anti virus, just to see if bsod's continue or not. I expect not, as since the symnets.sys driver was updated on 31.1.13, there have been 49 bsod, and 43 of the dump files state symnets.sys is the cause. 325 days left on the licence, but don't suppose I will get a refund, even though it can hardly be called fit for purpose!

Hi peterhorner,

Here's the info on refunds:  https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20100512172507EN_EndUserProfile_en_us
