In an attempt to download and install a 30 day eval of NG14, my hp laptop (xp-sp3, core2duo, 4gb ram) blue screens after installation and subsequent reboot. The offender, v21mount.sys, throws the following error: driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_pending_operations.
I can recover by selecting F8 at the next reboot and choosing last know good... But as GH14 then loads, beyond the splash screen, and attempting to configure, I am confronted with a dialog that indicates that I don't have enough privileges to proceed. I am logged on as the machine administator, btw, while doing this. So what gives?
Also, had errors when invoking LiveUpdate from the NG14 Image Browser application. So, I downloaded the new release of LiveUpdate and installed it. And can now successfully run LiveUpdate - yeah! It did successfully update NG14 to SP3. But still get the error dialog about not having enough privileges.
I downloaded the Noton Uninstaller Tool to remove any traces of Symantec software (LiveUpdate & NG14). But am now hesitant to try the install again as I have wasted a lot of time on getting this to work. The laptop is brand new and has Trend Micro Internet Security 2009, Office XP-SP3, and Outlook 2003-SP3, along with the standard hp stuff that comes preinstalled with the laptop. Please advise!
P.S. I'd like to get this working because I own a copy of NG9 and was using it to back up the hard drive on my previous laptop IBM ThinkPad A31 (XP-SP2). I tried to install it on my new hp laptop so I could restore data from my old IBM latop to the new one. But the installation was unsuccessful. Hence the reason for trying the NG14 30 day eval.
