It appears to be fixed, because I was able to reply to that post with the full subject line intact (plus the additional RE:). I'll have another looks at this issue though. Thanks!
Here's the problem:
The original post has a subject line that is 97 characters long, 3 characters shy of the max.
When you reply, it adds 4 characters "Re: ", pushing you to 101, just one character over the maximum. So this will be a rare occurrence, and I hope there won't be too many posts with 97-100 character-long subjects. Thanks!
