Can a virus or malware cause windows to think it is not Genuine

I was working on my Pastor's computer yesterday.   She has a gateway laptop and she yesterday morning norton ran a scan and cleaned a bunch of stuff...

ccsvchst.exe, cltlmh.exe and Ischeculesvc.exe.  After this she is getting the messag that Windows is not Genuine.  She has the label on the bottom of her computer with a valid poduct key.  I was gonna have her go back to microsoft site and checkthe validation again, but why would that happen out of the blue.  The computer was purchased from gateway.

It would appear that the problem has something to do with the sentence "she cleaned a bunch of stuff."  If those are some of the files that were removed, there is a large percentage of Norton missing as well.  At the moment it is looking as though she over-cleaned the computer.

What Norton product and version are you using?

Hello

Also, what operating system and service pack and whether 32 or 64 bit please? Thanks.
