AI Overview
You can download your Windows PC’s cloud backup files onto a Mac, but the method depends on the cloud service you’re using. If you’re using iCloud Drive you can access your files on both Windows and Mac using the same Apple ID. For other services like Dropbox or OneDrive you’ll need to install their respective clients on your Mac and sign in with your account.

If you’re using iCloud Drive to back up your Windows PC, simply install iCloud for Windows on your PC and sign in with your Apple ID.
On your Mac, download and install iCloud for Windows and sign in with the same Apple ID.
Your iCloud Drive files will be available on both device

Migration Assistant is a built-in macOS tool that simplifies transferring data from one Mac to another, from a Time Machine backup, or from a Windows PC. It copies documents, apps, user accounts, and settings, effectively setting up a new Mac to resemble your old one. It does not erase data from the source computer and can be run during the initial setup or later according to Apple Support.

Generally PC files can be opened on a Mac. Most common file types, like those created by Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), are compatible and can be opened using the corresponding Apple applications (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) or the Mac versions of Microsoft Office. You can also use cloud services like Google Drive or iCloud to access and edit files across different operating systems.

Microsoft Office Files
Files created with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc.) can be opened, edited, and saved on a Mac using Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, respectively. You can also use the Mac versions of Microsoft Office for a more seamless experience.

Other File Types
Many other common file types, like JPEG photos, PNG images and PDF documents are also cross-compatible between Windows and Mac.

Cloud Services:
Services like Google Drive, iCloud, and Dropbox allow you to upload files from your PC and access them on your Mac, and vice versa. This is especially helpful for syncing files across different devices and operating systems.

File Sharing
You can also set up file sharing between your Windows PC and Mac, allowing you to directly access files on the other machine.

Boot Camp
If you need to run Windows-specific programs, you can install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp and then boot into Windows to access those files.

In summary, while some file types or applications might require specific software or conversion, most PC files can be opened and used on a Mac.

I think he was referring to Norton backups created on a Windows PC. Norton for Mac doesn’t support that feature, neither backup nor restore from the main UI. I have seen that feature on Norton account’s web UI, but as I don’t use Windows, not sure if it can be restored from the web UI on Mac.

Thanks

Hello @shellcoder

Yes, I was thinking from Norton account Cloud Backup online.

Okay, I need to inform you the Backup feature of Norton 360 application will not show in Mac due to apple restriction or third party backup feature in their devices. So if you want to download the backed up files in Mac, you can do that from the Norton account portal…from your Mac.

Okay, so you can simply login the Norton account portal in the browser of Mac > then on home page you will find the Cloud Backup tab, click that > then click on Download of file you want in Mac.

Yes all the files can be downloaded from the Cloud Backup in Mac device from Norton account portal.

Certain files like notepad files may not work, you may need to convert the file type after download. But the download of all files can be done.

I am really sorry, we cannot confirm about whether same file will work in Mac as that depends on the file type.

They’ll download to a folder created on Mac and then you’ll need to see what’s what. (my words)

Hello @LAcrashdog
Do you have a working Mac machine with access to your Norton account → online backup sets?

You can download your Norton backed up files from your Norton account to a folder created on your Mac machine.

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them: I was, thank you for clarifying. I havent bought the mac yet, because I was worried about losing all my stuff, if I could not transfer everything over from Norton windows to Norton mac. I was going to use Parallels to have the windows on the mac as well, but wasnt sure if that would make a difference. So just trying to get all the relevant info before deciding if I want to go Mac or stay PC.

AI Overview
Norton 360 for Mac includes Cloud Backup, which automatically saves your files to the cloud, protecting them from data loss due to hard drive failures, theft, or ransomware. You can select which files to back up, schedule automatic backups, and access your backed-up data online.

What it does:
Norton Cloud Backup creates a copy of your important files (like photos, documents, etc.) in the cloud, offering an extra layer of protection against various data loss scenarios.

How it works:
After you enable the feature and choose what to back up, Norton 360 automatically uploads your selected files to its secure cloud servers.

Benefits:
Data Recovery: In case of a hard drive crash, device theft, or ransomware attack, you can restore your files from the cloud.
Accessibility: You can access your backed-up files from any device by logging into your Norton account.
Convenience: Norton 360 handles the backup process automatically, so you don’t have to manually back up your files.
Availability:
Cloud backup is available for both Windows and Mac versions of Norton 360. However, some users have reported issues with backing up to iCloud.
Storage Limits:
The amount of cloud storage you get with Norton 360 depends on the specific plan you choose. For example, Norton 360 Deluxe offers 50GB of cloud backup for up to 5 devices.

Chat support:
When Norton 360 is installed on a Mac, the Cloud Backup feature may still appear in the user interface as part of the overall subscription package. This is because Norton 360 is a cross-platform product, and the subscription includes features that are available on Windows devices. The UI is designed to reflect the full suite of features included in the plan, even if some are not supported on macOS.

The feature shows up because it’s part of the subscription, but Apple’s system restrictions prevent it from working on Mac.

Hello, no, it doesn’t allow you to use backup feature from Norton’s web UI on Mac. In other words you cannot backup files on Mac neither from the main UI nor web UI.

So, what does Norton 360 for Mac → Cloud Backup do/open…anything? it’s faux cosmetic?

Sorry, didn’t notice your question until now. It will open the link to Norton account → Cloud backup which shows how much storage has been occupied by that feature.
