Does anybody know if there is a way to force Norton to scan all of the files on my windows 10 PC instead of skipping the trusted files.
The reason I ask is that I recently downloaded the Apache OpenOffice windows installation file (version 4.1.3) onto 2 of my PC's, one runs Norton the other uses Windows defender. The file came from the Apache site.
On downloading the file Norton insight reported it was safe with a trusted rating and there it sat in my downloads folder, it was not picked up during any subsequent scans, I did not run the file on this PC.
I did however run the program and install the program on my other PC. After a routine scan by Defender it found 4 instances of the JS Nemucod Trojan, which defender promptly removed.
I then downloaded Norton Power Eraser onto that PC and it identified the Open Office 4.1.3 installer as bad and removed it.
My PC running Norton still did not id the file as bad, although I promptly deleted it and then ran Power Eraser.
So, my concern here is that Norton trusted a file that may, or may not be carrying Trojans packaged within, and therefore if insight trusts it, it wont scan it. How many other files could be harboring a virus?
So can I force Norton to ignore insight and scan everything? As I now have concerns that things could be missed simply because a file has been trusted by Norton prior to being downloaded.
I have scoured the internet and not found a solution and I'm beginning to think that Norton cannot scan without skipping files.
Selecting Scan all files from the scan menu still skips files.
