Can I send commands from my home pc via email mms message

Can I send commands from my home pc via email mms message or just from my buddy list?

I have tried from my pc but no luck so far.

Example:   locate mypassword  to 555-555-5555@mms.att.net

Hi bobdole,

I seem to recall someone saying that only SMS from phones worked but I'm not sure why.

You should be able to send the "locate" command from any mobile phone but obviously it will only work with the full paid version and not the Lite version which only supports the "lock" command.  I have only tried from phones.

If anyone reading this has succeeded in getting Norton Mobile Security to respond to a a PC based message please say so.

I did purchase the full version.

Thanks

My cell company uses a spam filter for sms msgs sent via email. I have to reply to the notice of a new email sms msg before the sms is actually delivered to the phone. However, the same company offers a sms plug in for outlook that bypasses the spam filter and sends the sms directly to the phone from my own cell tel #. I have had success using this plug-in to communicate with NMS. I made sure to add my own cell # to the buddy list.

As long as you can find a way to send a sms directly to your NMS cell and the originating cell # on that msg is in your buddy list, it should work. If you can't accomplish this thru your service provider, try a website that offers nation wide sms messages.

Good luck.

Thanks dph15,

That is very useful.

It would appear that provided the phone with NMS thinks it is receiving a SMS message from a phone then it works.  I am not convinced that it needs to be in the buddy list though it would presumably have to be if you were trying to send the unlock message.

I can how ever with a different  program " wheres my droid and send an email to:  wheres my droid   @ 555-555-5555@mms.att.net

That works OK,  Not sure why Norton is not working the same way.

To clarify sending SMS for AntiTheft.  For the current design, the SMS cannot have any extra characters in the message beyond the following pieces of information:

Number From

Message contact (using the format of unlock passcode, lock passcode, locate passcode, unlock yourbuddysnumber)

If there are extra characters (or a subject for example), NMS currently does not support that.  For those who send an email, the addition of a subject is likely why it's not working for you.  I hope this clarifies things for everyone.
