Can I use CCleaner professional plus with Norton Internet Security 2014

Can I use CCleaner professional plus with Norton Internet Security 2014 are there any conflicts using this good 3rd party software. Norton always nags me with any 3rd paryuy software I install. I'm not sure if CCleaner pro plus has any security features in it.

Thanks....

A quick look on the Piriform site does not show any real time scanners involved with that package. As long as that is the case, there should be no problem running it with Norton Products installed.

Many users use CCleaner with no problems.

Just be careful if you use the Registry Cleaner part of CCleaner and don't allow it to change anything (a) without making a backup of the registry first and save it where you can find it and (b) without knowing enough about the registry to know whether it is safe to change (sometimes I wonder if Microsoft does know what goes on in there!)

And preferably don't use the Registry Cleaner at all since it is highly unlikely it will improve the performance of your PC and not unlikely that it will kill it ......

I myself use the Cleanup part and I use the Intelligent Cookie cleaning, not that I think cookies matter all that much, detrimentally.

I've used CCleaner for many years, and it has never given me a problem.

Unless you're familiar with the program, just use the default seetings for a while to get the feel of it.

Piriform has a good help page, as well.

I agree that it's wise NOT to use the registry cleaner.

Windows is prettty good at managing it anyway, and the differences in speed are less than noticeable.

I've used CCleaner for a while now.

NIS knows CCleaner is up to something:

That detection is the Norton Product Tamper Protection stopping any program (in this case CCleaner) from accessing any Norton files. It does not mean that CCleaner is up to anything, just that it tried to access a Norton file during its scans. The tamper protection did its job and stopped any access.

Interesting. I don't mean to digress, but the Tamper Protection only flags UI processes that access nis.exe, like Explorer, and Winzip too.

It does not detect command-line access:

C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\21.2.0.38>\bin\sum nis.exe
21430   270

In your example  it seems you are trying to run NIS from the command line. Just running the program is not reason for concern. It is when a program is trying to read the program as it would in a scan, that tamper protection would get suspicious and block access. The thinking would be that malware is trying to read the exe to try to insert some bad code.

Actually, /bin/sum is a DOS command-line program that computes the CRC checksum of the agument (in this case, nis.exe).

It would have had to read every byte in the nis.exe executable file to get that checksum.

(sum is a standard unix utility/program)
