Can I use Norton Ghost 12 to restore a wiped drive?

I've recently been infected with a trojan on my desktop computer that  I just can't get rid of.  It loads XP Anti Spyware every time I open any program.

I can't install any new A/V programs, my current ones can't get rid of it and it hijacks everything else.

But I ran Norton Ghost less than 2 weeks ago (before the infection).  I ran a full, uncompressed copy of my drive and it's stored on an uninfected external hard drive.

If I completely wipe my hard drive, can I just plug in the disk that came with NG 12 and then from that, run a restore of my most recent backup?

I've only ever had to restore individual files before so I don' have the slightest clue how to do a full one.

Is this even possible?  Would I have to load a clean copy of my operating system first or can I just let Norton do the whole restore thing on it's own?

Any help would be greatly appreciated at this time.  Thanks!
