I have an older HP Envy 17 laptop. with windows 10. When I finish work I close the lid to put it in sleep mode rather than shutting it down.
I have done this for years but recently once or twice a week, not consistently, when I open the lid I find the computer has powered off. This leads to me powering up which can take as long as 30 minutes before it is running normally (the reason for sleep over shutdown)
My power settings are to put the unit in sleep when the lid closes and to never shutdown while plugged in, which it always is.
The first time I thought maybe a brief power loss had caused this but with the battery any cutout would have to be a while which I'd notice. My windows updates are paused so shouldn't be the cause.
The only thing I can think of is if Norton is doing an update that shuts down the unit. The reason I considered this is when this happens the Norton 360 icon on my desktop keeps going back to it's original location which it does when I do an update normally.
Can N360 do an update while in sleep mode? Although an update requires a reset it does not usually shut down the unit. I've had Norton for years and never experienced this before.
Is it possible that Norton could be causing this? Is there any way to find out or suggestions to try? Any thoughts on any possible causes other than 360?
Thanks if you can help.
