Can Norton Default set be removed to create hard drive space?

Hi!.  I updated my Comcast Norton Security Suite this past week.  It was problematic, and had to have several uninstalls and reinstalls, but it's done.

The problem now is :  It's a space hog!  I have only 544 MB left of free space on my C:// drive.

As of right now it is 532 MB out of 9.49 GB.  I have a Dell Dimension 4100 (from around the year 2000).  It has 512 RAM.  The OS is XP. I've never had low disk problems until now.

I have deleted any and all music, picture, files and most word documents to give me the 500+ I have now.  This computer has few programs on it, just enough for Firefox, Norton, and Microsoft Office, and Canon primarilly.  Doing a Windows Search for the larger files, I found only "Norton Default Set" to have 1 GB.

Can this be removed or disabled?  I have System Mechanic as my backup already, I don't need another restoring program, especially one that takes up so much space.  Can it be removed? I would like to keep  Norton for the anti-viral scans if nothing else.  I can't even defrag, there is so little space now. I seem to lose a little more hard drive space by the hour.
