Can not get NBRT to boot from USB made from ISO w/ Rufus

Ok I've read some of the other threads here and tried to not cause trouble....  ;-)

Specifically this thread:https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-bootable-recovery-tool-iso-file-and-usb-flash

I have a thinkpad T480 and created an NBRT from ISO with the defaulted parameters using Rufus V3.0

In BIOS I turned OFF secure boot under security features then in Boot section set it to Legacy only with CSM.

I get the error "Could not find kernel image ... "

any assistance appreciated!

Thanks,
Jim

For the life of me I cannot find a previous thread that had a similar issue to yours. The latest and greatest CPU was causing the same, or a similar issue to yours.

From what I remember, a Norton employee did post in that thread, so they are aware of the issue with NBRT and the newest CPUs.

Thanks .... again!

For the record my CPU is an Intel CORE i7 vPro 8th Generation....

I guess Norton will have to get a newer version of the Linux kernel for this to work for me....

You are most welcome. At least we got the correct format and a true reason why NBRT won't run. Glad to assist.

Cheers

thanks SA

I rechecked my bios settings but don’t think I changed anything but I rebuilt the USB drive and again don’t think I changed anything but it almost worked this time

it booted and I got to this glass screen and then it Halted

With an error that my CPU had not been tested and it might not be compatible

there was no way to bypass the error message

oh well
I guess I am hosed for now but I was doing this only as a preventative measure I don’t have a virus at the current time

thanks for your time!

Recreate your bootable USB. Make sure that you select the file format to FAT32 for the initial formatting. Run Rufus and create your bootable recovery media. Also make sure your boot scheme is set correctly to BIOS, NOT UEFI.

Cheers

Thanks SA!

I have been doing the F12 - "select boot device" (for this boot)

It "starts" to boot the NBRT-USB then fails .. loading the kernel.

NCHoser in your BIOS settings for Legacy make USB the first bootable media. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v72380755_EndUserProfile_en_us
