Can remaining NIS2008 subscription time be used with new NIS2009 program?

Over the weekend I note that I can purchase a "shrink wrapped" retail copy of NIS2009 for $10 after rebates.

This of course gives me both the complete program plus a 1 year subscription.

Question:  I still have almost 6 mos left on my NIS2008 subscription which is reflected in Norton My Account.  Can I uninstall the NIS2008, install the NIS2009 and enter my NIS2008 info to retain my current 6 mos of subscription under the new NIS2009?  Then upon expiration of that, can I update my NIS2009 program/account with the "new" subscription information that came with the retail copy of the NIS2009 program?

Seems logical as this similar to what takes place if I download the NIS2009 update from Norton and then go out and purchase the retail copy.  Concern is: is my account info (product info, etc) specifically tied to the NIS2008 program and lost once that program is removed or replaced?

Benefit would be I finally get the true stand alone NIS2009 program that I have been wanting (and a future 12 mos renewal all for $10).

Will this work???

Thanks for all comments.
